The Czech Republic is situated in central Europe. 
It is bordered by Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, and Germany. Language spoken, Czech, in business  mostly German, English, French.
The two principal Regions are Bohemia and Moravia.
The Bohemian landscape consists of rolling hills and plateaus, surrounded by mountains to the north, west and south.
Moravia is generally more hilly on the north than Bohemia.
The Principal rivers are the Elbe and The Vltava, which are vital to the nation's waterborne and agricultural commerce. The river Vltava flows through the Capital city of Prague.

There has been several bank irregularities in certain banks, 
so we strongly advise before you deal with any, check it out. 
There some banks which are safer, and they are controlled by foreign interest, they seem to be safer for now.

The banks and money exchange offices in the departure-arrival on the airport are is open daily. I city there is also many banks and exchanges, especially in downtown area as well as in major tourist areas. The monetary unit is  Czech Crown (Ceska Koruna - CZK), which is divided into 100 hellar. Credit cards and Eurocheckes are widely accepted, and many automated bank tellers also accept credit cards or the ec bank card.

Transfer to the city 
Prague Airport is located some 15 km north west of downtown.
Cedas operates a comfortable minibus service from the airport into Prague city (Namest Republiky). Tickets are 150 CZK and the ride take about 30 min. 
An alternative is to take a public transportation, bus no. 119 which runs every 20 min from the airport to Dejvicka underground station. The journey take about 20 min. From here, the underground Metro (route A, toward Skalka) takes roughly 10 min to reach the city centre. 
You can also take a taxi, which cost 25CZK per Km plus 25CZK as a base charge. Airport taxis have a taximeter. 
It is also possible to take a limousine service (desk 13 in arriving area). For a fixed fare 600 CZK,(check it out) a limo will take you to the city centre. 
Taxis can be also found at large squares and hotels in the city. A vacant taxi is recognaisable by illuminated white sign on its roof. Taxis are generaly expensive, although fares vary from one company to other. It is recomended to get en estimate of your fare. AAA Taxi seem ro be reasonable, tel 33 99.Another company Centralni Dispecink Taxi, tel  798 77 77 ( they claim that they will bring the car free of charge. Public transport
Buses, underground trains (Metro) and trams are major forms of public transport. Tickets cost 12 CZK for two zones and 16 CZK for 3 zones.The ticket holder is entitled for up to 60 minutes of travel during the day and 90 min between 8pm and 5am. Changing from one form of transport to another is allowed. There are also tickets for  8CZK, which are however valid only for 15 min of travel, and no more then 4 stops. There is also various tickets for specified period of time. Tickets are available from the Praha offices at major metro stations like Mustek, Museum, Holesovice atc. 

 

Safety

It is wise to keep an eye on one's personal belongings, particular in tourist areas as in any other major city. Police is however doing a good job and trying to clean up this problem.

Hours of business 

Banks - 9 am to 4pm Mon-Fri 
Shopes - 8 am to 6.30 pm, Mon-Fri, 7am - 1pm Sat. 
 There are however many exceptions to the rule and now more and more shops are open also on Sundays. 
Post Office -Hours of operation 7 am to 6 pm Mon - Fri, 7 am till noon on Saturdays. 
Offices are generaly operating 8-5 pm. 
Public offices, like municipalities etc. are open for public on wensday 8-12 noon and 2-6 pm.

Tipping

It is normally up to the customer to tip as he/she feels is appropriate. If the tip is not already included in the bill, a 10 % tip is customary. Hotel porters, taxi drivers and cloakroom staff also expect a small tip.

Prague:

The city is divided into 57  townships (10 Prague Cities, Prague 1 - 10) and 47 municipalities).
There is 8 Universities with 37 faculties, 60 Grade 12 equivalent high schools-out of which 20 is private operated and 2 are religious. There is 119 trade schools and 53 specialized apprenticeship schools.
   Theaters: 19 theaters  with 25 steady playing scenes.
   Galleries: over 100
   Museums: 54 and 108 public libraries.
   Hospitals: 17 public serving even out of town patients, 8 specialized medical institutions, 2383 independent doctors practices.

Government: A parliamentary democracy headed by the president. The parliament consists of two chambers-the 200 member House, elected for four yr. term. Also the senate with 81 members.

History - (very briefly): Establishing approximately in the 5th century by slavic tribes. The czech formed kingdom of Bohemia, the Premyslide dynasty, which ruled Bohemia and Moravia from 10th to the 16th century.
Another Bohemian king Charles lV. Holy Roman Emperor, made Prague an imperial capital and center of Latin scholarship. (more)
A union of Czech and Slovaks proclaimed on Nov. 14, 1918 which formed the Czechoslovakian state.
In March 1939 German troops occupied Czechoslovakia till end of war 1945 when the former government has returned to power. However elections have changed the situation in 1946 when Communists became dominant political party and iventonaly gained the full control of the government in 1948.
Communist rule has changed with Vaclav Havel when elected as a President in 1989. Strong Slovak nationalistic movement emerged by 1991 which sought independence for Slovakia which was iventionaly granted on Jan 1st 1993.
While the country has enjoyed low unemployment the economic restructuring has started and continues till today with some obstacles  and with  some exciting future prospects. (more)
