How to get from the Airport
Prague's Airport Ruzyne is located at the north west Prague, about
15 Km from downtown. The transportation
to and from airport is possible by using either city bus
or a cab.
Busses are quite cheap,
safe and you can get on right at the terminal. You can board Bus # 119
to take you to the Metro Station Hradcanska, where you can transfer and
get throughout the city quite ok. Another bus # 179 will take you to Nove
Butovice, however we recomend the first choice, as you may be necessarily
disoriented by taking the second choice, especially if you take it in an
evening. The Bus rates info is here
The non-stop info about arrival-departure to and from the airport
is on these numbers 36 78 14 and 36 77 60

How to travel by Train in Czech Republic
Czech Railways - known under the symbol CD
(which means Cesky Drahy - translation of Czech Railways)
The railway transportation is or has been quite popular and comparatively
cheap, although there may be occassional delays. Always check with the
attending person at the particular station.
There have been some labour problems lately. Check before traveling.
Train travelling is for the lower budget traveller, but it could
be adventureous occassionally. If possible avoid travelling over night
at north west part of Czech Republic as there have been reports in local
paper about possible robberies by certain individuals. However police is
gaining control of this problem. I am told by people who just returned
from there and took a train ride overnight from Hungary through Czech to
Poland and East Germany. They have experienced no problem.
There is 2 categories of train to travel in.
One is regular, which stops at all stations an is called "osobni
vlak" (personal train).
The other is "rychlik" (fast train), which stops only at certain
major interjunctions. On this type of train It is possible to buy
1st and 2nd class ticket to travel. 1st is better, although you do not
find anybody travelling with chickens or other farm animals in 2nd class
either. Just regular working people, but it is more crowded.
The time tables you may find on their site
of Czech Railways.
The phone # in Prague is 24 22 42 00 from out of country the area
codes are 42 02 24 22 42 00.
The office of the CD is: Hybernska 5, Praha 1, Ph.: 2422
5849, Fax: 2422 3600

How to Travel by City Bus
First of all there are two types of bus transportation:
City Transit, which connects on to a Metro and takes you to various
suburbs of the Prague City. The fees are the same as for Metro and
cost 12 CZK for two zones and 16 CZK for 3 zones. The ticket holder is
entitled for up to 60 minutes of travel during the day and 90 min between
8pm and 5am. Changing from one form of transport to another is allowed.
There are also tickets for 8CZK, which are however valid only for
15 min of travel, and no more then 4 stops. There is also various tickets
for specified period of time. Tickets are available from the Praha offices
at major metro stations like Mustek, Museum, Holesovice atc.

pm, Sut & Sun 8 am - 4pm.

How to Travel by Intercity Busses
The main Bus for intercity travel is CSAD
( it stands for Czech State Autobus Transport in translation)
However after 1990 and the privatization certain portion of
it have been awarded to various smaller companies. There are several Bus
terminals listed here and it is advisible to check
before departure if the specific route is running. Many times it happens
that the scheduled departure has been cancelled for one reason or another.
(the cancellations are not usually listed on the web site, you will find
out when the bus won't show up. It is also advisable to be at the terminal
well before the bus arrival as there may be lineups and you may not get
in as it happened to us. In that case you may have to take the next scheduled
time if available. Also check before departure. (The clerks at the main
terminal Florence are not always very helpfull. You may experience difficulty
dealing with it, but do not give up. Some of the information over the phone
is impossible to obtain even for Czech speaking person. If you go there
personally you may get a better chance, but I can not promise much it is
an individual thing, it depends on the person you are delaing with, some
may be very nice if you lucky, however on some them it is best not
to comment. Hopefully the system will improve in time).
On some routes, for longer distance there is a
reservation of the seats available
and where available it is definitelly recomended. You will save your self
lot of dissapointment.

Transport by Cabs
Helpfull information
Generally, the cab transport in Prague is OK, but be alert as
there may be some unscrupolous operators out there who may overcharge
you and make bad name for everybody else and ad the same time get you upset.
Here are some tips on better travel:
Make reservation over the phone, that way you
may avoid "black" operators, and if there is a problem you have a place
to go and complain.
Check the price before you go.
The prices list must be visible on the car doors as well as inside.
Watch the taximeter.
Be alert when riding in a taxi (of course not to the point that
you wouldn't enjoy the trip).
Every car must be visible marked with company or commercial name
of taxi owner, together with identification number. It may happen that
if you do not pay the full price the driver may not let you out.
Watch out so they don't drive away with a lugage
if you have price disagreement.
Ask for the receipt called "paragon"
On this document, you must find the licence plate # of the cab and
the registration number of taxi owner, it should be the same as on the
outside door.
The prices may vary from cab to cab, but the general rule is that
the charge per km is about 20Kc and should not definitelly go into hunderts
of Kc. You cna compare the prices on other cabs.
The prices are in Czech currency
Koruna and definitelly not in
German Marks or US $!!!
There is also standard basic fee which should not be more then 25
Kc, there is also waiting charge which varies and shouldn't be more then
10Kc per min.
